First of all, who is a video director?

        A video director is the head of music video production. A video director should be creative and should be able to work in any kind of environment.

       It is also important to know the difference between a producer and a director. A director plays an essential role in the creative vision of film whereas a producer deals with the finance, distribution, production and marketing of the film.

 
It’s not an easy task to create a nicely cut project. It takes talent and a number of characteristics that separates novices from professionals. What are these characteristics?
Here are some qualities a good video director should possess.
 
1. Communication Skills.
      Efficient communication with the production team is crucial in ensuring everything flows smoothly. Effective communication makes the work easier and faster for the video editor. The ability to passage the message across to a crew member, artist or actor is very key.
 
2. Versatility
     As a video editor it is good to be able to handle other tasks aside editing video footage. Some video editors also work with audio, color grades, and visual effects to some degree. Knowing other aspects of post-production is a plus.
 
3. Good Storyteller
      A good video editor should be able to understand the elements to that particular story. If you’re telling a narrative, what is the plot? Who are your characters? What is the conflict of your story? The same applies for a documentary; who are the subjects you will use to help tell the story. What message are you trying to convey? These are questions you need to ask before you begin your edit. Once answered, you will have a much easier time piecing together your footage.
 
4. Good Listener
      Some clients may come to you with the ideas they have in mind for their video and there is nothing wrong with that. It is important to hear them out and see if their actually works.
