RECORD LABELS : TIPS FOR UPCOMING ARTISTS

A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. The entertainment industry in Nigeria is getting bigger by the day. New artists keep coming and they all want the limelight almost immediately. That is why to be a top artist in Nigeria you have to be at the top of your game.

There are a lot of record labels out there looking for talents to sign and jworld ntertainment is not left out. Aside that, Jworld ntertainment also offers other services such as sound design, jingles production, mixing and mastering e.t.c. Before you sign up with a record label as an artist there are some things you should know to about record labels.

1. RECORD LABELS ARE BUSINESSES : Owning a record label is a form of investment. Yes, you are nurturing talents but at the same time you need to make returns from your investments on the artist(s). When the artist becomes a success, it is a win-win for both parties.

2. THE CONTRACT: This is the part of most of the upcoming artists are ignorant about. There is more to just joining a record label, what is the agreement between both parties? is it clearly stated in the contract?. When little things like this aren’t sorted out there tends to be issues. Some renowned artists have spent hard-earned resources on lawyers because of contractual problems. Kizz Daniel, Runtown, Ycee just to mention a few also had problems with former record labels. At Jworld Academy you will learn the various types of record deals for artists e.g 360 deal, standard deal, etc

3. BE INDEPENDENT: No one likes to work under someone for a very long time. It is normal to move on after gathering experience. As an independent artist you control everything yourself and you don’t necessarily need a record label.
